It is not a difficult hike, nor is it filled with solitude. But, it is an incredible view. I often take a picnic with me.

Had not been here in a several years, looks just about the same. Lots of people out and good views of expensive houses. A good place to take visitors or noobs to Austin.
Just too short...

Very pretty but not what I would consider a hike considering it was so short. I decided to climb the stairs across the street for the pretty view so it wasn't a waste of time...
Nice but short

Not bad, very steep at parts, but not very traveled, as I got very scratched up fighting through branches. Definitely too short for a hike.
Nice view

Lots of steep man made stairs. The view was great at the top, but the location was crowded. Good place to take a quick hike to get a good view of the sunset.
Great but too short

Great view, always crowded. Too bad it doesnt connect to anything but Mayfield Preserve is an excellent add-on. 3 for difficulty because of all the stairs but they don't last too long.

Mount Bonnell is a must do in Austin. Make sure and take the tangent trails because there is some great exploring and even some solitude if you look a little.

hike down the trail from peak. after a while, head towards the river, down the mountain. you will eventually reach a path that runs the width of the mountain and has a nice overhang which may shelter you from the sun
Hot view...

Mount Bonnell is a rite of passage for anyone that lives in Austin or has moved to Austin. I can't count the number of times I've been up there. There is one house that is now encroaching and that is sad, but the views are still remarkable.

I climb this hill every time I go to Austin, usually before I adventure into the city. It has some great views! I suggest taking the senic route (Scenic Rd) which goes along the hills/shore of the lake.
good views, nice outdoor stairmaster

i stupidly brought my parents here without bringing water. we were all dying of thirst after climbing the stairs. fortunately we made it back down alive, and then on the way to barton springs (yes, i was taking them to all those Places To Take Visitors) we discovered Uncle Billy's. dad enjoyed the local beer, mom and i enjoyed the water. ahhhh. the bbq was good, too.
oh, but this entry is about mount bonnell. right, well, what more can you say? excellent views of rich people's houses. i mean, you can still sort of see downtown, and of course the water below looks nice, if you can get a peek at it past the other sightseers.
Beautiful lookout area -view of the city

Came to find a cache in the park. Surprised to find a new house just south of the peak that blocks part of the view from the lower parts of the peak. Never heard a word that this eyesore was going up and wonder why the new fenced off property includes part of the railings that used to keep the public from venturing to the cliff's edge. Was that not on public property?

Been a long time since I'd been here. They seem to have put up a fence finally, to cut off access to the trails just under the bluff where kids typically go to take drugs and have sex. Not that I ever did of course...:-) Lots of people around, and the famous hundred steps going straight up at the beginning. Take a right from the summit to wander down along the bluff for some better views of rich people's homes and such.
Just a great view
