I always think it is amazing that Wild Basin is right in the middle of Austin.  It is so peaceful, minus the few times when you can see the new construction on 360.

Good in the city

This is a good hike with good amounts of shade.  It's nice because it has informational handouts about the vegataton and other interesting notables....Good for kids who are starting to hike themselves because it has plenty of spots to sit and rest with a decent overlook spot. I thought it would be more difficult than it was however was able to carry my 2 year old daughter and my 8 month pregnant wife was able to hike the inner circle trail which was fun....

Well the wife and I sweated this one out. Really liked the trails very well organized. Thought it was great that they had a safety log of those going in and out just in case trails need to be cleared. Next time later in the day, as the sun can be a real scorcher midday on this trail. Liked the waterfalls, it was absolutely beautiful. It was very calming and soothing
Nice hike close to home

This is a nice little walk for an afternoon. The Arroyo Vista loop would be great for young kids, but the other paths, farther from the trailhead, might be a little difficult. The interpretive pamphlet provides a nice introduction to common Hill Country flora like the Ashe Juniper and Plateau Live Oak. The best part is definitely the falls, which were flowing nicely after the recent rains.

Only saw 3 or 4 people the entire time. Parking can be difficult, so be prepared. I thought that the trails were hard to navigate at first, but once you get away from the visitor center they are very well laid out.

I liked the trail. I'm guessing the fall/winter is a better time to go because the falls weren't falling. Good place to break in youngsters on the necessity of preserving our natural habitat. Challenging for my four year old but she kept up fine.

Hiked a bit longer than I normally do out here, taking the outer loop with the Madrone trail and then repeating a loop of the Ledge and Creek trails before heading back. Saw a total of four people on the trails this Saturday afternoon. It was ROT Biker Rally weekend though, so at times I almost felt like the bikes passing by on 360 were rumbling there in the basin with me. ROFL.

Hiked portions of each of the four loops (yes, there are four of them). Very nice weekend day, so actually saw a few people out and about. Probably a dozen total, which is relatively high traffic for this area. Take note that the spur trail marked "Side Trail" on the map is now closed, for habitat restoration.
Beautiful Views!

My family and I hiked this. The overlook views are pretty, just need to tune out antennas and noise from Loop 360. Good ascents and descents. Bee Creek Waterfall was interesting. No wildlife seen.
Beautiful scenery and pretty challenging

Was completely alone on the trails today, apart from the ever-present drone of traffic on 360 and a traffic helicopter. Hiked the big outer loop (to the Madrone Trail). The Madrone Trail has a decent ascent to it which is why I like it, even if I do end up practically in the back yard of three rich people hillside homes at one point there. Saw a deer, and have seen a tarantula there before also.

I hiked this trail today and enjoyed it very much. Started hiking towards the overlook once we started and we were able to stop and enjoy some views of the canyons. As the trail decends the Trees begin to surround you. The trail down to the creek trail becomes a bit steep so watch your step. The climate has been a bit dry so the water in the creek beds was stagnent and rather low but I'm sure after a good rain it is running and a lot more pleasant. The hikes back up on the falls trail or through the woodland trail are rather steep. It took us about a hour and half to trek all of the trails over a total of about 3 miles. I would def. recommend this hike. We enjoyed it very much. Maybe I'll get the chance to go back after a good rain and catch more wildlife.

A long stretch is near enough to the highway that traffic sounds provide a constant distraction.

Hadn't been out here in a while. Noticed that they've added another marker or two in the inner loop trail, so they're working on things as always. Saw a couple more areas marked for reclamation than I remember also. Hiked the big loop (out to the Madrone Trail) and never saw a single person the entire time on a weekday evening.
Fairly secluded yet easily accessible

This park is wonderful for a quick hike of an hour or two. I went immediately after work and left at sunset, after hiking the big loop (minus the Madrone Trail which I'm not quite sure they want people on unguided and plus the Ledge Trail that I may have accidentally taken). On this weekday evening, I saw a grand total of two other people the entire time. The trail itself is outstanding, covering a wide variety of vegetation once you start plunging into the basin itself.
I only saw 12 people in 1 hour.

I like this preserve very much! Have been back on numerous occasions during heavy foot traffic time to very solitary times. People are very friendly and the hike is a very nice workout. Go after a nice rain so that the waterfall will be flowing nicely! Have seen deer and a snake or two!
Creek Trail is pretty

Definitely try the Creek Trail at the bottom of the basin, it's very pretty. Can be a little muddy, though. To get away from everyone, cross Bee Creek to the Madrones Trail, I've seen deer on that side of the basin.

Hubby (no user name yet) and I decided to hit a trail close to home, and after driving past Wild Basin for the past six years, finally decided to check it out. The hike is fairly easy and very enjoyable. The views of the immediate Austin hill country are wonderful...however, the proximity to a major Austin highway (360), didn't allow us to fully enjoy the natural surroundings. During our trek (10:00 a.m. Saturday), three ambulances, a fire truck and countless amateur drag racers made us quickly realize that we were still in the Austin city limits. Still, this little piece of visual heaven is not to be missed. In spite of the less than perfect natural soundtrack, we will definitely be return visitors.
