Lots of Bluebonnets soon...peak is April 10th
Brushy Creek Lake Park - 3/18/2015  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3point5stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: halfstar
Distance: 6.00 Miles Duration: N/A

Easy walk with some slight elevation on a wide sidewalk...nice walk from Twin Falls (usually has lots of water) area with lots of parking by the YMCA off highway 183 in Cedar Park.  Usually walk 3 miles almost to the dam at the lake and then back for a total 6 miles.  Fields of bluebonnets are a nice bonus March-April.  Just have to watch out for bike riders on the same sidewalk.

good hike but too hot
Balcones Canyonlands NWR - Doeskin Ranch - 5/30/2010  [View Log Page]
Rating: 3stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 4stars
Distance: 3.70 Miles Duration: N/A

mistake starting out at 11am didn't finish until 1:30, ran out of water and the heat was too much for the un-treed outer loop (Indian grass).  Only wildlife out in the heat was a few lizards.  Glad the creed was there on the trip back as we got our sweat cloths wet to cool us off.

There were lots of  wooden signs going out to the last loop.  Found a lot of rock markers along the Indiangrass loop, but as we exited that loop, there were no signs to go left or right to connect to the loop back to rimrock.  We went left, but right probably connected too...it was hot and we were tired, so the shortest route would have been nice.  Needed tio print out the map next  time.

Will do this again next fall/winter when it's cooler.

End of our hike around the lake
Good Water Trail - 5/9/2010  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 11.00 Miles Duration: N/A

This was our 2nd trip around the lake, doing several miles each time usually weekly.  We saw different things that we didn't see last year.

There's a candy box on the trail going east from Russell park that marks the turn along the fence to head north.  It was helpful as due to the rain the trail that goes alon the road was under water.  This was during January 2010.

We finished this year going east to west this time, as the last 2 miles is flat headed to Tejas camp, we felt this was a little easier than the opposite direction, in any case it's 11 miles, so started at 8 am and finished at 3pm.

The only thing we had forgotten about was the hill you had to climb (24 steps up and 19 down) before getting to the flat land.  We may have taken the lower route last year due to the drought, but not able to do it this year.

Can't wait to start the hike when it's cooler again next fall (usually start about November).

great paved walk
Brushy Creek Regional Trail - 4/3/2010  [View Log Page]
Rating: 5stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 1star
Distance: 6.00 Miles Duration: 2 hours, 20 minutes

new "BCRT" cement markers were put out today starting from Twin Lakes park to the Brushy Creek lake, marking only 2.75 miles (they are in 1/4 of miles, slly should have been no less than 1/2 mile).  I don't know where the 5 miles or 4 miles as the cedar park website comes from, round trip, it's 6.  If you go east past the dam, it's in Round Rock and then called Lake Creek Trail, I belive as we were walking to the dam and saw a cement marker "24", as the trail goes all along Hairy Man Road (Brushy Creek Road or 174).

Lots of Bluebonnets in the sunny parts of the trail, bridges and nice waterfall near the Twin Lakes park.  Quite a bit of walkers/runners and bikes today, not too many dogs (which have to be on leashes).  Will take my camera next time!

Great secluded area

It's very treed and great area, might be great when it gets hot in the next couple of months.
