DORIA WAS THE NICEST WOMAN THAT NOT ONLY HELPED US ORGANIZE OUR HIKE, BUT ALSO SHOWED GENUINE CONCERN AND INTEREST FOR OUR WEEKEND. SHE WORKED THE ENTRANCE GATE AT RUSSEL PARK AND WAS THERE FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON, WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED UNTIL SATURDAY EVENING, AS WE FINISHED OUR HIKE.
WE FIRST ARRIVED TO LAKE GEORGETOWN ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON. MOST OF THE CAMPSITES WERE ALREADY FULL AND WE WERE BECOMING DISCOURAGED AS WE DROVE THROUGH OUT THE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AROUND THE LAKE. WE QUICKLY DECIDED THAT THE WE WERE GOING TO HIKE THE 1.5 MILES IN TO THE FIRST PRIMITIVE CAMPSITES THEN BACK OUT IN THE MORNING TO PREPARE FOR THE HIKE. SATURDAY MORNING WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A VERY NICE COUPLE TO LEAVE OUR 2 PERSON KAYAK WITH ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAKE FROM WHICH WE WERE STARTING OUR HIKE. THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE GREAT USE OF THE KAYAK AS WELL AS MAKE SURE IT STAYED SAFE WHILE WE WERE ON THE TRAIL. LEFT FROM RUSSEL DOCK AT 10:45 AM ON SATURDAY MORNING. WE ARRIVED AT CEDAR BREAKS PARK BY 5:45 PM THAT AFTERNOON AFTER A GREAT DAY OF HIKING. WE MANAGED TO STOP ONLY ONCE FOR 30 MINUTES, OTHERWISE WE WERE ABLE TO KEEP UP A PRETTY GOOD PACE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. WE WOULD HAVE PREFERRED MORE OF THE TRAIL TO BE MORE LIKE THAT ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE LAKE BUT OVERALL WERE VERY HAPPY WITH THE HIKE. AT THE END OF THE HIKE WE MET UP WITHTHE COUPLE AND GOT OUR KAYAK BACK SO THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PADDLE DIRECTLY OVER TO THE RUSSEL PARK DOCKS. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TRIP TO ANYONE, BUT MAYBE WITH THE ADVICE OF LEAVING A LITTLE EARLIER IN THE MORNING TO AVOID THE LATE AFTERNOON SUN.
