The United States' newest National Natural Landmark is in West Texas. The U.S. Department of Interior announced the new designation for the Independence Creek Preserve, a nearly 20,000-acre protected swath of the Chihuahuan Desert, on Friday, July 9. The land is currently managed by The Nature Conservancy.
