I've had to halt on the trail a few times wondering where the owner is. I tell them every time it is in their best interests to keep their pets on a leash so they don't get into it with wildlife. An injured pet on the trail is as much of an issue as an injured person.

According to the story, to the man's credit, he instinctually went in to try and save his dogs after they have jumped in.

I am a bit concerned that these modern conveniences are emboldening people to embark on trips they're not fully prepared for by giving them a false sense of security. R.I.P. Inchworm
