Texas Parks and Wildlife produced a video showing a young relative backpacking newcomer tackling a 100 mile stretch of the Lone Star Hiking Trail. She's not as ill prepared as Cheryl Strayed in Wild, but she seems to learn a lot during the effort.

I hiked with Emily for one day and this was her first backpacking experience. She did great! Most people start with a 1 or 2 day backpacking trip starting out, but she tackled a long trip along with it being very rainy right before she started making for wet trails. Too bad Houston PBS flubbed the showing of Texas Parks & Wildlife TV Show. The PBS schedule showed it would air last week, but they showed repeats.
