Bastrop State Park - Lost Pines Trail - 2/22/2008  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 8.50 Miles Duration: 3 hours, 15 minutes

This couldn't have been a more perfect day to hike.  Blue sky clear & cool.  I started off thinking this would be just another walk through the pine forest and it kind of was but with a little bit of hill country thrown in. The trail was good while walking along the creek beds. There are ponds where the Houston Toad resides where we saw and heard the toads, and one of the ponds  loaded with eggs. After leaving that area the walk did get monotanous.  What made it good was, we didn't see anyone until a mile to the end , and he was going the opposite direction.

If you're there at Bastrop, take the hike. McKinney Roughs is about 8-10 miles up the road and it's a better hike. You can cool your feet in the Colorado.

Beautiful day to see the falls.  The falls were a little slim this day. People were sunning on the rocks of the falls. Will try again.

You gotta love that hill country. The colors were beautiful, the weather was perfect, the views were wonderful. There is alot to admire during this hike. We were on the trail by 9:00 am, saw one person on the trail until the very end. The last 1/4 mile we must have seen 50 people.
Good Hike ! solitude with the spiders.

A beautiful summer day 8:30 in the morning. My teenage daughter and I decided on this hike and were not disappointed. The solitude was great. There was a LARGE group of kids at the entrance and I was beginning to rethink picking this hike. But after we started we saw absolutely no one. The trails were well maintained and easy to follow except a couple of intersections. The Cypress Trail along the Colorado River was shady and somewhat cooler than the ridge above. Pine Ridge Trail, is just that, pine trees. Remember the solitude I said was there? Well it was there for the spiders also. If anyone followed us in the afternoon, their way was cleared of spiders and webs. All in all it was good hike, very enjoyable.
